Well its nearly 3 months since I retired from work and I don't miss it one bit. I went in to see them all last week and it's never the same once you leave. Had a chat to all the people I wanted to and had lunch with Sokit in the lunch room but I couldn't wait to get out of there. It was like visiting someone in jail and getting back out into the fresh air. I don't think I will bother going back again, I can see all my close friends outside work.
My police record came back clean, so I am now able to venture around Tebbutt Lodge by myself
without a keeper. There was a change in exercises this week and the new ones seem a bit harder for the residents but they seem to enjoy them ( the few that will do them that is>) The rest just sit there or are asleep in their chairs. They will start to do them when you ask them but once you turn away they will stop. Most say they can't be bothered.
It was raining this week so we couldn't have the Gardening Club and ventured into the Library
instead for a discussion group. It was supposed to be on gardening but we got a bit side tracked. Asked them all what kind of work they all did before and this turned out to be very interesting.
After lunch they had a residents meeting and I sat in. Proposals were that they didn't want cheese and leek soup any more; they preferred less rice; were only able to have 1 yogurt a day
and needed a handrail on the way down to the social room. A new floor was being laid in the kitchen so they would be able to have takeaways and BBQs for the next 2 weeks.
I managed not to make any of the residents scream this week.
Had a visit to the gynacologist this week and need to go into Hills Private Hospital for day surgery as I have several foci in my cervix of uncertain significance that needs to be investigated. I am booked in to go 19 May a couple days before we leave for Perth. The
Doctor says he doesn't think it is anything to worry about and will be doing a D & C.
It was the last straw with our stove when the element blew. We have already paid nearly $800 to have it fixed and it was still burning eveything I put in the oven.........no it was not my fault. No matter how low I put the temperate it burnt. So we decided to forget our losses and get a new one. As Tony has to do everything straight away we ventured out on Thursday evening at 5.15pm to go to some places at Auburn. The traffic was horrendous and we ended up at Harvey Norman Auburn 2 hours later (its about half hour run normally) so purchased it there, couldn't be bothered looking anywhere else. It was delivered and fitted the next day. Now I think we will have to get takeaways as it looks so bright and shiny and clean and I don't want to change that.
